Our doctorate in educational leadership is designed to make you an educational leader with the knowledge and skills you need to enhance your leadership capacity. Whether it be in Higher Education, in the K-12 school systems, or in state or federal educational departments, we will provide you with the tools and experience you need to lead in education. 

We are proud of our learning community approach that gives you the opportunity to learn with aid from experienced education professionals and leaders. We have a performance-based emphasis on learning and professional growth and a flexible instructional format to fit your busy schedule. We know that theory informs practice and practice informs theory — so you can use what you're learning on the job even before you've graduated.

Through our educational leadership Ed.D. program, you can expect to concentrate your work in several areas, including educational leadership, instructional leadership, and specialty areas.

Please note that the doctoral program is not designed to lead towards initial Administrative Certification for the State of Louisiana. Students who do not have a master’s degree in school administration or the equivalent may be required to complete three to nine hours of coursework in educational administration either before or during the doctoral program.

Our Ed.D. in educational leadership is a collaborative program offered in conjunction with Southeastern Louisiana University.

Concentrations

For the Ed.D. in educational leadership, we offer four concentrations:

  • Educational Leadership, Ed.D, Curriculum Leadership Concentration
  • Educational Leadership, Ed.D, Exceptional Learner Concentration
  • Educational Leadership, Ed.D, Higher Education Administration Concentration
  • Educational Leadership, Ed.D, K-12 Leadership Education Concentration

The Curriculum Leadership concentration will give you the knowledge and skills you need to provide effective instructional leadership. This concentration is designed to address the growing emphasis on the need for modes of teaching and learning to support pedagogy for diverse populations.

The Exceptional Learner concentration is designed to prepare you as a leader the knowledge and skills that provide effective administrative support for special and gifted education teachers. Many point to poor administrative support as a reason for special education teachers leaving the profession during the first three years of employment. This concentration is intended to give you a better understanding of the needs of special and gifted education and the kind of administrative support required for you to be effective.

The Higher Education Administration concentration prepares you for leadership roles in university and college administration or a career influencing higher education policies. As higher education in Louisiana and across the country becomes more complex with greater demands on its leaders, the Educational Leadership Ed.D. Higher Ed executive concentration will help you meet today’s challenges.

The K-12 Leadership Education concentration will make you a strong leader who can identify and solve complex problems in primary and secondary schools. Our doctorate in educational leadership, K-12 Leadership Education Concentration will teach you the leadership and management theories, practices, and techniques you need both in a school setting and outside the walls of your elementary, middle, or high school.
