Our Mission
Our EDFL faculty maintains a highly productive blend of extensive experience in both higher education, as well as K-12 organizations. Our researchers have garnered national and international recognition with their research, publications, and presentations. We maintain a strong practitioner base with faculty members having extensive experience as school and district level administrators, as well as teacher leadership.
In keeping with the overall mission of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the College of Education, and the Graduate School; the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership (EDFL) is committed to preservice and advanced programs, as well as University and community service.
Generally, the role of the department is to support the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Department of Counseling, and the School of Kinesiology, in the preparation of teachers by providing their students with educational foundations, leadership courses, and a variety of laboratory experiences at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
EDFL offers two graduate level programs. A Masters in Educational Leadership (M. Ed.) which leads to certification as public school administrator and an Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed. D.). The Ed. D. offers two tracks of study including K-12 concentration and higher education concentration.
We are implementing our mission in the following ways:
- Providing a descriptive study of education, both nationally and globally, from a historical, philosophical, and operational point of view;
- Promoting school-community relations by providing meaningful field experiences that are beneficial to prospective teachers and students; and
-
Instructing students in organizational and administrative theories, training, and principles that apply to educational institutions.
